Mumbai: Massive fire breaks out at Behrampada slums area near Bandra railway station

New Delhi:

A massive fire broke out at Behrampada slums area near the Bandra Railway station in Mumbai during the demolition drive on Thursday.

As much as 16 fire engines and 12 water tankers were at the spot trying to douse the raging flames. The fire confined to hutments in the area of about 300x300 & Skywalk of the railway station.

Train services on the Harbour halted for some time but restored later, a senior railway official said.

“Trying to contain the fire, it has not been extinguished yet,” Chief Fire Officer, Mumbai Fire Brigade said.

No casualties have been reported so far and efforts were still on to distinguish the fire.

The fire broke out near the east side of Bandra local station during a demolition drive carried out by the municipal corporation, the official said.

“Our control room got a call at 4.24 pm and fire brigade personnel along with 16 fire engines and 10 water tankers have been pressed into service,” the official said.

The chief PRO of the Central Railway said, “We have stopped Harbour line up and down services from 4.25 pm as a precautionary measure owing to fire near the Bandra station on the east side.”
