In one of the most explosive memoirs of 2020, Mumbai’s former top cop Rakesh Maria has revealed stunning plot that tried to portray 26/11 Mumbai attack as a handiwork of ‘Hindu terrorists’. In his memoir titled 'Let Me Say It Now', Maria says that Ajmal Kasab, the sole terrorist who was caught alive on the fateful night of the terror attacks in Mumbai, was planning to die as ‘Hindu terrorist’. He had red thread also known as ‘kalava’ around his wrist. Armed with a fake ID that identified him as one Samir Chaudhari, Kasab was to die as a ‘Hindu’.
“There would have been screaming headlines on newspapers claiming how Hindu terrorists had attacked Mumbai. Over the top TV journalists would have made a beeline for Bengaluru to interview his family and neighbours. But alas, it had not worked that way and here he was, Ajmal Amir Kasab of Faridkot in Pakistan," Maria says. The ex-top cop also wrote about how Ajmal Kasab brainwashed to believe that Muslims were not allowed to offer namaz in India. After the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was caught alive by Indian agencies, Maria wrote that Dawood Ibrahim’s men were given the task to kill Ajmal Kasab.
Apart from Ajamal Kasab, Maria also wrote about his abrupt removal from the 2012 Sheena Bora murder probe. In his book, Maria said that Peter Mukerjea had informed Deven Bharti, the joint commissioner of police (law and order) about Sheena Bora's disappearance before her body was recovered. Maria has also said that Bharti had close ties with the Mukerjeas and he used to attend their parties.
Bharti has slammed Maria’s book saying, “Maria belongs to a family linked with Bollywood and, it seems, scriptwriters have a great influence on him. In addition, it appears to be a marketing strategy for the book as well as the web series, which attempts to grab more eyeballs rather than placing facts. Moreover, for a policeman, It’s advisable to read the charge sheet and case diary rather than a piece of fiction. Won’t comment much as the the trial is in progress but would definitely tell that whole investigation team was aware of all developments and were on the same page till investigation was with Mumbai Police.”
In the book, Maria also raised questions on the scenario if the Maharashtra government knew of his successor Javed Ahmed's links to the Mukerjeas. Javed has also hit back at Maria. “What rubbish! Inaccuracy, falsehood and insinuation at its best!! Totally incorrect, hence misleading.. Its a matter of official record and easy to verify who was the ADG L&O then... would have expected accuracy of at least such basic facts... Really shocking …0but what can one expect from him!”
