Former Lok Sabha MP Eknath Gaikwad was on Friday appointed as the acting president of the Mumbai Congress. The appointment has been made by party president Sonia Gandhi. Two-time MP Gaikwad was defeated in the April-May general elections by Shiv Sena’s Rahul Shewale.
"Hon'ble Congress President has approved the proposal for appointment of Shri Eknath Gaikwad, Working President, Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) as the Acting President of Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) in place of Shri Milind Deora," KC Venugopal said in a release.
It also said, "The party appreciates the contribution of the outgoing president of MRCC, Milind Deora."
Milind Deora, who had announced his resignation as Mumbai unit chief owing to the party’s poor Lok Sabha showing, has been asked to continue, sources close to the former Mumbai South Lok Sabha MP said.
“I trust that the party will take a decision on the post of Mumbai Congress president at the earliest,” Deora had said.
