New Delhi:

Heavy to very heavy rains lashed Mumbai as monsoon arrived in the city, a day after its onset over Maharashtra. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted ‘really heavy rain’ in the city over the next few days and advised people to stay indoors.

The inclement weather situation disrupted flights and local train services in the city. At least two flights arriving at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai were dealyed. Trains on several routes were running 20-25 minutes late due to bad weather.

Rains accompanied with heavy winds uprooted trees and electricity poles in several parts of the city. Waterlogging was reported in low-lying several areas, including Mahim, Hindmata and Sion.

#04:30 PM: We are suffering despite paying taxes, complains locals: As heavy rains in Mumbai leave streets water-logged, locals from Hindmata area say 'BMC should have cleaned the drains earlier since they had not done anything public are facing problems now. Even after paying taxes we are suffering. This happens every year'.

#12:50 PM: Shelter schools to remain open, Navy on standby: Shelter schools will remain open at all times if there is flooding. The Navy will also be on stand-by in parts of the city where the flood is common when heavy rain, say BMC officials.

#12:45 PM: Flights diverted, trains running late: Two flights arriving at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai were diverted due to inclement weather conditions in the city. Train services on the Central Railway are running 20 minutes late.
