BJP leaders paid respect to Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on his death anniversary as relations between the two party detoriated further. With Shiv Sena set to skip a meeting of BJP-led NDA on Sunday singnaling their breakup, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present at an event to mark the death anniversary of Thackeray at Shivaji Park in Mumbai this afternoon. The BJP leader arrived after Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and his son, Aaditya Thackeray, left.

Earlier, Fadnavis had earlier tweeted his tribute of Thackeray remembering him as someone who "taught us the importance of self-respect." The choice of words from Fadnavis was interesting given that Shiv Sena is trying to forge an alliance with NCP and Congress- two parties it has constantly fought against. BJP has refused to form government after Shiv Sena demanded CM post on 50-50 basic after the election.

On the occasion of his 7th death anniversary, Fadnavis tweeted in Marathi, "Salutations to our inspiration source, Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray on his death anniversary."

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said party will fulfill the Balasaheb's dream of a Shiv Sena chief minister.

“We will do anything for Balasaheb; the government will be formed. The promise which Uddhav Thackeray made to Balasaheb that there will be a chief minister from Shiv Sena, that will soon become true,” Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who arrived at Shivaji Park in Mumbai to pay his tributes to the party founder, told reporters.

The Sena and the BJP fought the state polls together and emerged with 161 seats in the 288-member house but fell out after a bitter dispute over allocation of portfolios and sharing of the Chief Minister's post.
