Mumbai cricketer Vaibhav Kesarkar died after he suffered a heart attack on the field while playing a local match in Bhandup region in the city. The incident took place on December 23 during a tennis -ball cricket tournament. In a video clip, 24-year old Kesarkar is seen complaining about the chest pain which caused him severe uneasiness during the match.
Reports suggest that he continued to bat for his team – GaonDevi-- despite the chest pain. Kesarkar was hailed as one of the brightest talents in the local Mumbai cricketing circles. The video also shows him walking off the field rubbing his chest. The match was broadcast live on the YouTube channel.
After that Vaibhav was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead after the check-up.
Zee News reported that Kesarkar had been unemployed for a while and his family has been battling poverty. A friend of Kesarkar said he would have been under pressure due to the financial condition of his family.
Dr Satyen Bhavsar, who supervised his treatment, said he was given all possible medical attention but couldn’t save the aspiring cricketer.
In a similar incident, a young cricketer playing for a Railways department team died of cardiac arrest inside the ground in Bhopal on December 8. Arvind Honitya, a Railways cricketer playing in DRM inter-railway trophy for Diesel Shield XI, Itarsi against Electrical XI, suffered the cardiac arrest. He was taken to the railway hospital some three kilometers away on a motorbike, where he was later declared died by the doctors. The incident took place after teams were returning at the end of the play.
