New Delhi:

Have you ever heard of a health check up for just Rupee 1?

Wll, Mumbai's one of its kind 'one-rupee clinic' will provide you with this unbelievable service. The city's first cost-effective clinic was inaugurated at Ghatkopar railway station on Wednesday.

Dr Rahul Ghule and his elder brother Dr Amol Ghule are to be credited for the inception of this incredible project.

Speaking about the initiative, and the first day of the clinic, Dr Rahul Ghule, said, "The main objective of the clinic is to give primary medical treatment to commuters and accident victims. On the first day, there were over 65 patients who visited the clinic for general check ups like blood pressure, diabetes and joint pain. A majority of the visitors were senior citizens. Every clinic will have a team of over four MBBS doctors. We wanted to make an affordable health service platform for the public. Specialist MD doctors will be visiting the clinics for around four hours daily."

The clinic will be funded by the siblings. Speaking about the foundation of the project, Dr Ghule said, "My mother met with an accident and was admitted to the hospital for six months. She has been paralysed. The incident made us realise that us we need to create a platform to save people's life. With the help of these clinics, we want to save lives by providing immediate medical treatment."

Four other city-based railway stations — Dadar, Kurla, Mulund and Wadala Road — will have clinics set up by May 15.

Starting off with the five clinics as a pilot project, 19 clinics will be set up by August along the same lines at different central and harbour line stations in the city with an aim to provide medical treatment to the public and accident victims at railway stations.
