Mumbai rain: Heavy downpour lashes city, local trains affected

Mumbai and nearby regions have been receiving heavy rainfall for the past 24 hours. The impact of heavy rainfall has been more towards the suburbs including Thane, Navi Mumbai, Goregaon, Kandivali and Dahisar. The heavy rainfall has caused waterlogging on the Central line, leading to 15-20 minute delay in suburban train services on the route. However, fight service remain unaffected so far.

Also, the heavy rainfall has caused waterlogging at various places across the Mumbai city including Goregaon West, Jogeshwari West, Malad East, Malad Subway and Dahisar Subway. Traffic is moving very slow S V Rd Andheri Subway, Siddheshwar Mandir jetty near proposed sagari, S V Rd Behrambaug Jn and at Hanuman Nagar Kandivali East.

According to the news agency ANI, all government schools in Thane have been closed for today as per the order issued by the Municipal Corporation in view of continuous rainfall in the city.

In the meantime, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has warned residents to avoid going near the sea following the possibility of a high tide, which is expected to hit Mumbai later today. The high tide of 4.9 metres is expected to hit at around 1:44 pm.

In a tweet, IMD senior officer KS Hosalikar said, "The highest high tide of the four monsoon months is also today of 4.90 metres at afternoon, exactly during the period when IMD has forecast intense rains for the city. Heavy rainfall warnings on very high tide day in Mumbai is not a good combination please. Avoid outing, beaches."

Also, the Met department predicted “intense heavy rainfall” in Mumbai for Saturday and Sunday. In a tweet, Mumbai police requested Mumbaikars to take adequate precautions and ensure safety.

It is worth mentioning here that Mumbai has been facing torrential rain and waterlogging for past few days.
