The speed limit for light vehicles on both the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway will be lowered from 100 km/hr to 75 km/hr starting December 15, according to reports. The speed limit for heavy vehicles will stay the same - 60 km/hr on the Yamuna Expressway and 50 km/hr on the Noida Expressway.
According to traffic police, high-speed driving becomes unsafe during winters due to slippery roads and low visibility. Usually, this measure is implemented starting December 15 for two months, officials said.
Lowered speed limit to be visible on Google Maps
“A meeting will be conducted with the Noida Authority soon to review the situation and the speed limit will be reduced. The revised limit will also be visible on Google Maps, an initiative taken in November, the road safety month,” Dr Pravin Ranjan Singh, deputy commissioner of police (Noida Traffic) told the Hindustan Times.
Safety advisories
Meanwhile, safety advisories are being issued by the toll plaza staff via public address systems, senior manager for Yamuna Expressway toll operations, JK Sharma, told HT.
“We are distributing pamphlets, offering tea to night-shift truck drivers, and using reflective tapes on commercial vehicles to improve visibility,” said Sharma.
District administration's appeal
Meanwhile, the district administration has also requested motorists to drive carefully in low-visibility conditions.
“Drivers must ensure that fog lamps are in proper condition, check and replace worn-out wiper blades for clear windshields, and use defoggers to remove moisture from the rear glass.” said the administration in a statement.
