All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and 28 other indigenous students and youth organisations of the state, on Friday called for a mass satyagraha movement against the Citizenship (Ammendment) Bill, 2016 in Guwahati.

The rally taken out from Guwahati’s Latasil playground to Assam Engineering Institute field at Chandmari, put forward several demands, including scrapping of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, sealing of the Indo-Bangladesh border and protection of the indigenous people of Assam under the provisions of the Assam Accord, before the BJP-led state government.

“Assam is not a dumping ground for illegal Bangladeshis either Hindu or Muslim. As per Assam Accord, anyone who had entered Assam before ‘71 can stay in Assam but those who came after ‘71 can’t stay & should be deported. Government should scrap this bill,” ANI quoted AASU Advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya, as saying.
