Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department officials on Monday have seized 88 gm of heroin worth over Rs 4 lakh in Champai district and arrested two women, an official said.

“Two women of Tawipui village in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district were arrested for alleged possession of the drugs worth around Rs 4.40 lakh in the local market,” the department spokesman said.

The two accused were booked under sections of the Narcotic Drugs (ND) and Psychotropic Substances (PS) Act, 1985, said the official.

Meanwhile, they (accused) were remanded to judicial custody by the Special judge (ND and PS Act) for 14 days, it said.

Earlier on November 15, Punjab Police had recovered 4 kilograms of heroin worth Rs 20 crore in the international market from a Mizoram woman and her driver in Ludhiana’s Khanna city. The seized is believed to be the biggest recovery of drugs in the city in recent times, sources said.

Following the recovery, driver Anand Kumar of Jalandhar and Shivangi, a native of Aizawl, were arrested under the NDPS Act, it said.
