Normal life took a hit in Imphal Vally after incessant rains over the past 48 hours triggered flash floods in low lying areas of Manipur’s capital.
Roads have turned into rivers in several areas, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishenpur districts.
All the public offices and educational institutions remained closed on Thursday and the state government set up 29 relief camps across the Valley.
In Thoubal district, at least a hundred houses have been flooded by the overflowing Thoubal river, forcing residents to take shelter in relief camps.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Imphal over the next two days.
The Imphal River at Minuthong in the state capital was flowing at the “highest flood level”. The Irilbung and Lilong rivers were also flowing at the danger level, PTI quoted officials as saying.
