Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla on Tuesday said that a proper demarcated and fenced border with Myanmar is needed to prevent drugs and arms smuggling into the Northeastern state of Manipur.

“The porous border is allowing drugs and arms smuggling which is harming our society. Both India and Myanmar, should work and have a strategy together and there should be a proper demarcated and clearly identified border,” Heptulla told PTI at the sidelines of an NEC plenary session in Shillong, Meghalaya.

The governor said she had spoken to the External Affairs minister to take it with the Myanmar government.

“Manipur has a 398 km unfenced border with Myanmar,” Heptulla added.
