The State Election Commission (SEC) of Tripura on Saturday announced the gram panchayat’s by-elections in the three-tier to be held on September 30.
Addressing a news conference, the State Election Commissioner, G Kameswara Rao said by-elections of the panchayats would be held on September 30 this year.
Of the 3,386 vacant seats in the three-tier local bodies, where the by-polls would be held, 3,207 seats for gram panchayats, 161 seats for panchayat samities and the remaining 18 seats for zilla parishads, said Rao.

According to SEC, the notification for the by-polls would be issued on September 4 and the counting of votes would take place on October 3.
To enable a seem less process for electoral, use of ballot papers would be implement it in the by-elections, Rao said.
A large number of elected panchayat representatives were either resigned or death, due to which by-polls were necessitated in the state, officials said.

In Tripura, the last panchayat elections were held in June 2014 and henceforth, poling is due in June, 2019.
