Two more persons have died due to floods in Assam that have affected nearly 1.05 lakh people in five districts of the state, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.

According to the ASDMA, the two flood-related deaths occurred at Gogamukh revenue circle in Dhemaji district and Merapani sub-division in Golaghat district.

With this, the total number of flood-related deaths across the state has risen to 45 this year.

The ASDMA said over 1.04 lakh people are affected at present in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Darrang, Golaghat and Sivasagar districts.

The number stood at 1.09 lakh in six districts till Saturday.

Golaghat is the worst affected with over 93,000 people marooned. Around 6,000 people have been impacted in Lakhimpur.

Currently, 145 villages are under water and 8,869 hectares of crop area has been damaged, it said.

The authorities are operating 128 relief camps and distribution centres in two districts that are catering to 26,764 people at present, the ASDMA said.

The Brahmaputra river at Nimatighat in Jorhat, Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat and Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur are flowing above the danger mark, it said.

Massive soil erosions were witnessed at many places in Sonitpur, Barpeta and Sivasagar districts.

The floods have damaged embankments and roads in Lakhimpur, Morigaon and Golaghat, it added.
