Aditya Rao was just another mechanical engineer vying for a decent job. But even after getting an MBA degree from a reputed institute, Rao was not happy with his professional life. Soon, things began to change and he finally got a job with a major banking company. After several short stints with big financial brands, Rao started feeling restless. Troubled over frequent health issues due to long working hours in closed environment, Rao decided to opt for a field job. Cut to 2020, planning to do ‘something big’, Rao hit national headlines for planting an IED at the Mangaluru airport recently. Sensational details have emerged from his interrogation that highlight the growing joblessness and state of mental health in India.

News Nation has managed to access the CCTV footage of the hotel where Rao was working as a cashier and used to help in other work of the restaurant in Udupi district. In the CCTV footage, Rao can be seen packing the explosives in the bag in a hotel room. After packing his bag, Rao had then left towards the Mangaluru airport for his sinister plan. Giving the details after shocking surrender, Mangalore Police Commissioner Dr PS Harsha said, “Aditya Rao was brought to Mangalore yesterday night. We have learned that he had two cases of threat call against him in 2018 and was convicted by the court. He was in jail for a year. That time he had made threat call to Bengaluru Airport and railway station. After coming out of jail he wanted to do something big so he started doing research on bomb-making on internet.”

Rao utilised his engineering skills in sourcing the raw material for the IED bomb. “Aditya Rao sourced all the components of the bomb while he was working in a hotel in Mangalore and later in Udupi. On Monday, he placed the bag full of explosives in front of ticket counter and left from the airport .He claims he has done engineering and MBA but has not get proper job anywhere,” Dr Harsha added.

On January 20, the Central Industrial Security Force had found traces of Improvised explosive device (IED) from an unattended bag near ticket counters of the Mangaluru airport in Karnataka. The unattended bag had led to a bomb threat after which security forces cordoned off the area. “We found traces of Improvised explosive device (IED) from a bag lying at the ticket counter at Mangaluru airport, we have safely evacuated it,” CISF had said.
