Several people were injured and many vehicles were set on fire in Jharkhand's Lohardaga on Thursday. The violence took place after stones were hurled at a rally being taken out in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act and NRC. The incident happened when the rally, taken out by some Hindutva outfits including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, reached the Amlatoli Chowk area, police said. Some two-wheelers were set on fire following the attack, it said.
Deputy Commissioner Akanksha Ranjan and Superintendent of Police Priyadarshi Alok reached the spot to control the situation. A large number of police personnel were deployed in the area, official sources said. According to Lohardaga DC Akanksha Ranjan, section 144 has been imposed in the city.
In a tweet, the VHP questioned the Hemant Soren-government and police over inaction. In a video shared on Twitter, a security personnel can be heard saying that he and his colleagues suffered injuries during stone pelting.
"Police was mute spectator. As soon as Soren formed government with Congress support the Hindus are attacked?" VHP tweeted.
