Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar performed puja at various temples in Patna on the occasion of ‘Maha Ashtami’ on Sunday. While coming out of Sheetala Mata temple - one of the famous shaktipiths in the state - after performing puja, he lost his balance on stairs. However, he escaped unhurt as alert security guards saved him from falling on the floor.
After offering prayer at Sheetla Mata temple, Kumar went to Badi Patandevi and Chhoti Patandevi temples. He performed puja and prayed for peace, prosperity, and progress of the state and its people, an official release said.

Kumar was accompanied by state Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, MLCs Ranvir Nandan, Lalan Sarraf, and Patna Municipal Corporation Mayor Sita Sahu.
Bihar State Disaster Management Authority member Udaykant Mishra and the chief minister’s Secretaries Manish Kumar Verma and Anupam Kumar were among officials who accompanied the chief minister.
Meanwhile, Kumar has been elected unopposed as JDU president for another term, his party said on Sunday.
The party's national returning officer Aneel Hedge said Kumar was the only candidate for the post and was officially declared as its president after the time of withdrawal for nomination ended on Sunday.
Four sets of nominations were filed by groups of party leaders on Kumar's behalf.
For long an undisputed leader of the JDU, Kumar will steer the party during the upcoming assembly bypolls and the assembly election slated next year, at a time when its tie-up with the BJP has been uneasy.
