Chhattisgarh: Ten of a family dead as car rams into truck at Rajnandgaon

Ten members of a family were killed and four others were injured in a road accident near Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh on Sunday morning. According to news agency ANI, they were returning to Bhilai from Dongargarh when the accident took place.

The injured have been admited to a hospital. Among the nine dead, nine dead on the spot while one more succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital. The police have informed the family about the accident and the bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination. According to reports, the family was returning to Bhilai after visiting the Maa Bamleshwari Temple during Navratri.

As per preliminary information, when the driver of the sports utility vehicle (SUV) tried to overtake another vehicle, it collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction near Somni village, around 55 km from here, he said. Nine people travelling in the SUV died on the spot while another person succumbed to injuries while being taken to a local hospital, the official said.

According to news aggency PTI, efforts were on to trace the truck driver who fled the spot leaving his vehicle there, the official added. One way of the road has been closed for vehicles between Anjora village bypass in Durg and Rajnanadgaon town for nine days of the Navratri festival to ensure smooth movement of pilgrims who go on foot to the Maa Bamleshwari Temple.
