In yet another incident of crime against women, a 28-year-old lady was allegedly molested by her 61-year-old father-in-law in Gurugram, Haryana. The accused has been arrested and was later sent to judicial custody followed by a city court hearing on Wednesday. The elderly man, who, according to police, has confessed to his crime, was living with his daughter in Delhi but often visited his daughter-in-law at her Gurugram residence.

As per the complaint filed by the woman, a widow and mother of a toddler, her father-in-law had been stalking her for the last few months and visited her home in the Sector 5 area of Gurugram where she lives with her one-and-a-half-year-old son since the death of her husband.

"On Tuesday evening, my father-in-law arrived at my house. He grabbed my hand and started molesting me. When I raised an alarm, he not only insulted but also thrashed me. I was scared but with the help of a neighbour, approached police," the complaint read.

An FIR was registered against the man under IPC sections 354-D (stalking), 354 (molestation), 323 (causing hurt), 509 (insult the modesty of a woman) at the Sector 5 police station.

Talking about the latest development, sub-inspector Sunita, the investigating officer in the case, told Times of India, "We produced him in a city court which sent him to judicial custody".

India has been experiencing an increasing trend of violence against women in the last few decades. Common forms of violence against women in India include domestic abuse, sexual assault, and murder.

Cruelty by a husband or his relatives is the greatest occurring crime against women. From 2011 to 2012, there was a 7.5% increase in cruelty by husbands and relatives.
