A Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader was stabbed to death outside his residence in Guntur’s Mangalgiri on Tuesday. The TDP leader, identified as Uma Yadav, was attacked with sharp objects by three unidentified persons just when he was leaving his house around 7:30 pm, the police said.

While TDP leaders are claiming political reasons behind the murder, the police suspect it could be a case of personal rivalry as the Yadav was accused in a murder case. The TDP, however, said that attack on its leaders have increased ever since the YSR Congress came to power in the state.

TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh had contested the recent Assembly elections from Mangalagiri constituency but lost to YSR Congress leader A Ramkrishan reddy. Uma Yadav was said to be a close associate of Lokesh and had campaigned for him during the Assembly polls.

Amid the growing attacks on TDP workers, Naidu had alleged that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP was acting with the objective of attacking his party men.

Referring to the recent attacks on TDP workers in Anantapuramu, Prakasam, Guntur and East Godavari districts, Naidu had said, “We have to hit back at them if they are indulging in mudslinging in the name of corruption against our leaders. At the same time, we have to thwart their attacks on our workers.”
