In a brutal attack of unimaginable proportion, a man was hacked to death and his body cut into pieces in Kerala’s Athani area on Sunday. The incident came to light after the CCTV footage that captured the murder went viral on social media. According to the PTI, the victim has been identified as one Binoy. Initial probe revealed that the 34-year-old was murdered due to bitter rivalry between two local gangs. The murder took place around 8 pm on Sunday and was the bone-chilling visuals were captured by a CCTV installed in the nearby building. What is worse is that several people can bee seen staring at the gang of three hacking Binoy and repeatedly cutting his body into pieces but not a single person raised an alarm or protested against the attackers.
The police said that Binoy was also involved several criminal cases. The footage showed Binoy being attacked using deadly sharp-edged weapons in front of people by the gang on the highway. Police said a hunt has been launched to nab the accused.
The murder footage is a stark reminder of grime reality of Kerala. Latest NCRB data shows that Kerala has become the crime capital of India with 6.5 lakh cases in 2017. As per the latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the state registered 2.3 lakh cases under IPC in addition to 4.17 lakh cases under different special and local laws. Together, it constitutes 13.1 per cent of the total cases registered in the country.
Uttar Pradesh, which is bigger in size and population compared to Kerala, came second with just over six lakh cases while Maharashtra with 4.6 lakh cases came third, as per the report that is published once in two years. Though Kerala topped the chart, the number of cases, in fact, has gone down by about 50,000. In the previous NCRB data, Kerala registered a little over seven lakh cases.
