In a heart-wrenching incident, two new-born girls were drowned in a pond by their own father, who later admitted his crime, claiming that he could not bear their expenses. Waseem and his wife Nazma, residents of Bhikki village in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, were arrested by police for killing Afrin and Afiya.

Two newborn girls were drowned in a pond by their parents in an Uttar Pradesh village, with the father claiming that they killed the 20-day-old twins as they could not bear their expenses.

"Our financial condition is very weak. We could not have borne the expenses for our two daughters," Waseem, who already has a seven-year-old son, told police.

Station House Officer (SHO) Ajay Kumar said that the couple had an argument on Saturday night following which they threw the little babies in the pond near their house.

The father of the girls even tried to mislead the police by lodging a fake missing FIR. However, during the investigation the police found out that the twins were killed. "The parents have confessed to killing their daughters," Kumar said.

The parents have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), he added. Waseem works as daily wager. According to the residents of the village, he was not happy with the birth of two daughters and used to fight with his wife.
