Ghaziabad man rapes, kills 5-year-old cousin, arrested

In a heinous crime against a minor, a man allegedly raped and killed his five-year-old cousin sister in Ghaziabad. The minor's body was recovered from a sugarcane field near the Sarana village on Monday morning, the police said. The girl was abducted from Indira Puri Colony in Murad Nagar by her cousin Mahajan when she was playing outside her home, they said.

When the girl raised an alarm, Mahajan killed her, Superintendent of Police (rural) Neeraj Kumar Jadoun said. At the time of the incident, the victim's parents were away from home, meeting some relatives, Jadoun said.

When the parents returned home, they asked about the girl to their other two children, he said. A missing complaint was filed and the girl’s father, Namskar lodged an FIR with the police.

During the investigation, the police examined CCTV footages of the surrounding area and zeroed in on Mahajan as the main suspect. Mahajan was arrested and he confessed to the crime, the official said.

Mahajan has been booked under 364, 376, 302 of IPC and sections of the POCSO Act, Jadoun said.
