The wife of a sale manager, who was found murdered in his car under mysterious circumstances on April 28 near Gaur City in Greater Noida West, was booked for planning his killing along with her interior designer paramour and three others, the Bisrakh Kotwali police said. Rupendra Kumar Chandel and his wife Amrita used to live at Galaxy North Avenue in Gaur City 2. Amrita wanted to file for a divorce from Rupendra and settle with her paramour Omveer. When Rupendra refused for a divorce, Amrita hatched a plan to get him killed. She sold off jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh and gave the money to Omveer Singh to hire contract killers.
Rupendra belonged to Mahoba in Bundelkhand. He used to work as a sale manager in a private firm in Noida. Manoj Pathak, the SHO of Bisrakh Kotwali said that he had started deducing Amrita’s involvement in her husband’s murder after she gave inconsistent answers. Mobile phone records and further interrogation confirmed all the doubts.
Omveer Singh was arrested on Wednesday from the Tigri roundabout along with his two aides Sumit Kumar and Bhoole, while Amrita is absconding with some more jewellery. The 0.32 bore pistol used in the crime has been recovered, he said.
"A few days before the incident, Chandel had bought some jewellery and was carrying it with him on April 28 to get the invoice for them. Because of this, it was earlier suspected to be a case of loot," the police said.
Last year, Rupendra had bought an apartment in Gaur City-2 and hired Omveer to do the interiors of the house. That is when the proximity between Omveer and Amrita grew. Omveer had got married to Rupendra’s cousin a month ago, however, there were tensions between them right after marriage, the police said.
Sumit worked as a security guard in the society. He also operated the computers in the society. On the day of the murder, he had tried to delete the CCTV footages, however, was unsuccessful. He also pretended to look for Rupendra along with others. It was he who led the police to Rupendra’s car. That is when he came under suspicion.
Rupendra and Amrita were married for 5 years and they also have a son, who is now with his paternal grandparents.
