In yet another blood-curdling incident, a teacher at a primary school in Odisha's Cuttack district was brutally hacked with a sharp weapon while teaching in the classroom on Monday afternoon. Identified as Suchishmita Muduli, the victim sustained grievous cuts on her head, back, arms and thigh after a man entered the classroom at Ambapara Primary School and abruptly attacked her with a razor-edged machete.
Soon after the incident, Muduli had been rushed to the nearby Charichhak Community Health Centre (CHC) and was immediately referred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The 25-year-old teacher, who was bleeding terribly, is said to be in a serious condition.

Speaking to the media, eyewitnesses said Bibhuti Mohanty - the 20-year-old accused - suddenly enetered the classroom and pulled out a heavy machete from the back of his trousers to assault Muduli. Afraid by the horrifying incident, the students ran away from the class. Mohanty too fled the spot after the teacher collapsed on the ground. However, residents of the area caught hold of the accused and handed him over to the police.
Hailing from the Ambapara village in Cuttack's Niali block, the teacher is married to one Soubhagya Mohapatra and mother to a young daughter. On the other hand, Mohanty, an unemployed youth, was living in another village of the same block.

Miffed with the school authorities, Muduli’s husband told News 18, "I feel devastated by what has happened with my wife. I wonder what the other teachers at the school were doing when this incident took place inside the classroom".
Sources told media the incident was the fallout of a one-sided love affair initiated by Mohanty. However, the actual reason behind the same is yet to be ascertained.
