In a bone-chilling case, which is yet another reminder of sorry state of girl’s safety in India, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her cousin in drunken state in Lucknow. The incident came to light after the city police arrested the accused on Monday. According to a report by The Hindustan Times, a 30-year-old man raped his six-year-old cousin in early morning hours on Sunday at around 3 am. The report said that the family had gone out for Janmashtami celebrations and returned late at night. Basant, the accused, picked up the girl, who was sleeping next to her mother and raped her.
The girl was found in an unconscious near house in morning by the family members. The initial investigation revealed that Basant had given Rs 10 to the child to stay silent. “The accused, Basant, was arrested today (Monday). He stays in the neighbourhood of the victim along with his wife and two children. The police registered an FIR under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and section 3/4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Sunday,” police officer Vinod Kumar Goswami was quoted as saying by The Hindustan Times.
