A minor girl, whose headless torso was recovered from the outskirts of a village near Madhya Pradesh's Sagar last week, was kidnapped, gangraped and then brutally murdered by her uncle and three brothers.
The body of the 12-year-old girl was found in a farm in Bunda village on March 13 after her father lodged a missing person report.
According to police, her uncle had misled the investigation by “suspecting” a land dispute with a land dispute with neighbours as the possible motive behind the murder. He had named one Chote Patel, who lives in the same village, as the culprit.
On Monday, Superintendent of Police, Sagar, Amit Sanghi told media that “the most-mortem report had revealed that the deceased was gangraped.”
After starting the investigation and collecting all the information, the police grew suspicious about the uncle.
“Our two senior officers collected all evidence and recorded the statements of the family members. When everything was pieced together, we found that she was raped and murdered by her brothers and uncle. We arrested the uncle and one of the brothers,” Sanghi was quoted by NDTV as saying.
Three of the accused, including the minor’s uncle have been arrested. The eldest brother aged 22 is still on the run. Also, one of the two brothers arrested is a minor.
Police said that during the investigation, it was revealed that the eldest brother was missing since the day the minor’s body was recovered.
Describing the sequence of events of the horrific incident, SP Sanghi said that one of the brothers had taken her to the uncle’s place, where the crime was committed, when she was returning home after exams.
When the victim threatened to go to the police, the accused first strangulated her and then beheaded with a sickle. Blood-stained clothes and sickle were recovered by the police.
