New Delhi:

She was crying, writhing in pain. After much convincing, the doctors operated upon her. It took four hours and doctors at the Indore hospital finally removed the six-inch-long piece of plastic from her uterus that had damaged her small intestine and urinary tract. Her husband has now been arrested, the report published in the Hindustan Times said on Thursday. The shocking case of unimaginable torture came to light after the victim managed reached the Chandan Nagar police station and narrate her ordeal. The cops filed a case based on her complaint and took her to MY government hospital.

This is where the doctors got to know about the real reason of her pain. The victim finally opened up and said that two years ago, after a fight, her husband had inserted a bike handle inside her. Worried over the shame and stigma, the mother of six children kept quiet and suffered the agony for nearly two years. It was only after the pain refused to subside that she went to a local hospital. The doctors there told her that she would need to undergo a surgery that would cost her around 1 lakh.

Confused after hearing such a large sum, the woman left the hospital and managed to reach the police station. It is here that the police helped her out and admitted to the Indore hospital. The husband was immediately arrested after the complaint. The HT report said that the damaged internal organs have been operated upon and the woman is recuperating now.

The United Nations in its 2018 report had said that the disturbing trend of violence against women has been normalised in India due to cultural conditioning. “There are many others who remain invisible, unheard and therefore, not counted due to everyday normalization of sexual and other forms of violence. Such normalization can only be prevented through strong engagement with schools, colleges, communities, state machineries and elected leaders, and a policy of zero tolerance of violence against women and girls. Addressing impunity at every level – family, community, institution – is crucial,” the UN report had said.
