Large scale demonstrations and violent protests were witnessed in parts of Bihar's Gaya after another ghastly incident of minor rape and murder came to light on Thursday. As per the media reports, a 16-year-old girl was found beheaded with her face burnt with acid and deep gashes on chest in Gaya, 111 km away from capital city Patna on Sunday. Though police believe it to be a case of murder over family honour, agitators claimed that the teen was raped before being strangled to death.
The gruesome incident led to growing public anger with the protestors alleging a perceived delay in arrests and relevant police action in the case. The teen's family also accused the police of not acting on their missing complaint promptly. The minor first went missing on December 28 and was later found in a decomposed state on January 6.

However, giving another edge to the story, senior police officer Rajiv Mishra told NDTV, the girl, according to her mother and sisters, had returned home on December 31 and was sent away with a man known to her father at around 10 pm the same night.
Though preliminary investigation and call records indicate the man's connection with several local criminals, he has denied killing the teen. However, the autopsy report is still awaited to confirm whether the girl was raped or not.
