An overpowering stench led to a macabre discovery of a rotting corpse in Noida’s Amrapali Silicon City society on Tuesday. A 45-member team of the National Disaster Relief Force was called in from Ghaziabad to take down the body that was entangled in cables between two housing towers inside the gated society. According to a Times of India report, the victim has been identified as one Sonamani. The 19-year-old was from Bihar’s Katihar, who was brought by one Jai Prakash to take care of his arthritis-affected wife. Prakash, who works at a real estate firm, also used to live at the 18th floor of the society, the TOI report said.
The body was discovered after the residents complained of the strong stench. One of the flat owners said that they thought the stench was due to a dead rat. They cleaned their houses with disinfectant several time. It was only on Tuesday that one of the flat owners spotted a human body in the shaft. The NDRF team took two hours to retrieve the body. The body was decomposing at the height of 130 feet above the ground. The NDRF team was able to bring down the body after a resident allowed the team to drill inside his flat. The body was taken out using ropes tied to balcony.
The TOI report quoted a forensic expert as saying that it seems to be a case of murder as the body was found in horizontal position. If it was a suicide, the woman could have jumped from the terrace on the ground instead of shaft.
There was no police complaint lodged as victim’s employer had called her family in Katihar to tell them that Sonamani had left the house without informing anyone. Though the body has been sent for post-mortem, the police has not filed any case so far. According to a police official, they are waiting for Sonamani’s family to come to Noida. In case her family files a complaint, they will then register the FIR.
