Ujjain: 5-year-old girl raped, murdered, body found in river; two men detained

The Madhya Pradesh Police has detained two persons in connection with the rape and murder of a minor girl in Ujjain. The officials are interrogating them and further investigation into the matter is going on, cops said.

"SIT was formed for the investigation. The suspects are being interrogated. Further investigation is being done," Sachin Atulkar, Superintendent of Police, said.

According to reports, the minor girl was abducted when she was sleeping with her family in a shanty near a brick kiln. Her parents, who hail from Agra in Uttar Pradesh, work as labourer at the kiln.

The family members found the girl missing when the woke up in the morning. After searching for her for a few hours, they informed the police.

The police launched a search operation with the help of sniffer dogs during which the victim’s body was found in Kshipra river near Bhukhi Mata Mandir.

The cops have sent the body for a post-mortem examination.

“A three-member team of doctors has been formed to perform the autopsy. The initial report suggest injuries on her private parts, indicating at a sexual attack. The doctors are yet to confirm whether she was raped,” additional SP Neeraj Pandey was quoted as saying by a TOI report.

According to the report, the police also found empty beer and liquor bottles in the vicinity, indicating that there may be more than one attacker.
