In a major turn of events in the Vasant Vihar triple murder case, in which an elderly couple and their 24-year-old house-help was killed, the police have arrested the accused who happen to be known to the couple. The police have arrested one Preeti Sehrawat and her live-in partner. Preeti was the daughter of deceased Shashi Mathur’s friend. Vishnu Mathur (80), his 75-year-old wife Shashi and 24- domestic help Khushbu Nautiyal were found murdered on Sunday. The assailants killed them all by slitting their throat. Preeti and the other accused lived in Gurugram.
While Vishnu was retired a Central Government Health Scheme official, his wife Shashi was a former NDMC employee. The couple is survived by a daughter who lives somewhere else. Recently, they had lost their son in a road accident.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch said that Preeti had stayed in the house around a year ago. The police also said that the CCTV footages in the vicinity showed Preeti and her partner recceing the elderly couple’s house on June 21. Also, on Sunday night, Vishnu’s phone was switched on for a while and the location was traced to Gurugram. The police said that the accused stole Rs 63,000 in cash and the jewellery that was on Shashi’s body.
Initially, the police were suspecting that the accused had come with an intention to harm Khushbu, but ended up killing the couple to eliminate witnesses. Since there were no signs of forced entry into the house, it was being believed that Khushbu facilitated their entry into the house.
