A woman journalist, Mitali Chandola, was shot at by two unknown bike-borne men in  East Delhi’s Ashok Nagar when she was driving home alone on late on Saturday night, the police said. News agency ANI reported that her car was overtaken by a Maruti Swift, following which the unidentified men fired two shots at her and even hurled eggs on the windshield of the car.

"Two masked assailants first threw eggs at the front glass of my car and when I did not stop, they fired two shots at me," the complainant said.

“Mitali Chandola was driving alone near Dharamshilla Cancer Hospital when two bike-borne men intercepted her car and opened fire from the front. At least three bullets were fired, two hit and pierced the car’s front windshield. Eggs were also thrown at her car. One bullet hit her right arm. The woman was admitted to a nearby hospital. She will be shifted to AIIMS for surgery,” joint commissioner of police (eastern range) Alok Kumar.

The police control room received a call around 12.30 am on Sunday about the shooting. Chandola works in a television channel in Noida, according to ANI.Kumar said an attempt to murder case has been registered at the New Ashok Nagar police station.

“The woman has told the police about the differences she is having with her husband. Personal enmity is being suspected,” the police officer said.The police have not ruled out other angles, including a robbery attempt.
