New Delhi:

In an unusual move, the Delhi government has set the cut-off marks higher for the Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates than that for the general category aspirants in one of its recruitment exams conducted to appoint science teachers in schools. While the qualifying marks for the general category candidates is set at 80.96, the SC candidates will have to score 85.45 to make it through. The cut-off for the OBC category (73.45) is a few marks below than that for the general category and is 12 less than the SC cut-off. The lowest cut-off, 69.31 marks, is for the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.

The Delhi Directorate of Education had in September conducted the Delhi Government Teacher Recruitment Exam to fill 222 vacant posts for science teachers in various government school across the national capital. Of the 222 vacant posts, 31 seats are reserved for the SC category candidates.

The qualification mark for general category candidates in such examinations is usually higher than that for the other category candidates such as SC, ST and OBC. However, in some of the government examination such as the Rajasthan Public Service Commission, the cut-off marks for general category candidates is lower than the cut-off set for the backward class candidates.

In 2013, the Rajasthan Public Service Commission set the OBC cut-off at the highest level in the Rajasthan Civil Services exam or the RAS exam.
