JEE Advanced 2020 To Be Conducted By IIT Delhi On THIS Date, Details Inside

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is all set to conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) 2020 on May 17 for admissions to 23 IITs across the country. While the first paper will take place between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, the second one is scheduled to be conducted from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. In a first, the JEE Advanced will be also held in the United States in 2020. For the US aspirants, the examination centre is expected to be set up in San Francisco.

The announcement comes following the crucial September 15 meeting of the IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB), where several key decisions were taken in regard to the JEE Advanced 2020. Some of changes being made for the national-level entrance examination also include the increase in number of takers. While top 2,40,000 rankers in JEE Main used to be considered eligible for JEE Advanced till 2019, from 2020 onwards top 2,50,000 students will be allowed to appear in the prestigious examination. The number of students include all categories such as General, Schedule Caste (SC), Schedule Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC).

"IITs have taken a conscious decision to encourage cultural diversity on their campuses. JEE exam is now conducted in five countries worldwide and we have added USA to this list. US has benefitted significantly by the presence of a large number of IIT alumni there and there is considerable awareness in the US about IITs. Conducting JEE in the bay area is a logical thing to do," Professor V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, said.

Apart from India, some of the other countries where JEE Advance centres are set up include - Dubai (UAE), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Kathmandu (Nepal), Singapore and Colombo (Sri Lanka). However, in 2020, the IIT JAB has decided not to conduct examination in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Colombo (Sri Lanka), citing absence of candidates during previous year examinations.

Highligting the changes in schedule for Paper II examination, Professor Siddharth Pandey, Organising Chairman, JEE (Advanced) 2020, said, "Paper 2 that used to start at 2 pm earlier, is now scheduled to start at 2:30 pm. This is to allow students, especially the PwD candidates, more time between the two papers. This will also help in conducting biometric verification at the centers in timely manner".

Earlier, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had announced the JEE Main 2020 schedule for admission to undergraduate architecture and engineering colleges across the country. While the January session of JEE Main 2020 will be held from January 6 to January 11, 2020, the April exam will be conducted between April 9 and April 13, 2020.

Every year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) organises JEE (Main) examination while one of the 23 IITs organises JEE (Advanced) under the guidance of IIT JAB. In 2019, IIT Roorkee organised the JEE (Advanced) in which a total 161,319 candidates had appeared in both papers 1 and 2. Of the total candiadtes, 38,705 qualified JEE Advanced 2019 for admission to various IITs across the country.
