JNU security guard clears varsity’s entrance test, set to study Russian: Report

New Delhi:

In what can be called sheer display of dedication, Ramjal Meena, a security guard at JNU cracked the Varsity’s entrance examination for admission into BA Russian (Hons). The security guard belongs to Rajasthan’s Karauli and had been employed in JNU by a private security provider company since 2014. 34-year old Ramjal completed his 12th in 2002 and this was his first attempt at the JNU entrance tests. As per media reports, his target is to qualify the UPSC examination.

Meena, son of a daily wager completed his primary education from a government school in his village Bhajera. As per Hindustan Times report, the nearest college was 28-30 km away from his home and he also was required to help his father and thus had to discontinue his education. 

So how exactly did Meena prepare for the exam? The HT report quoted him saying that some of the JNU students helped him and provided PDF notes to him. And he used to follow newspapers on phone.

Lauding Meena’s efforts, Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar said, “We have always encouraged students from diverse backgrounds. We nurture them by providing them critical thinking ability.”

Meena, who earns Rs 15000 per month has the responsibility of wife and three children and is also a sole earner in his house. He said that he will request the JNU administration for night shifts.
