New Delhi:

In a student-friendly move, the Health Ministry, in consultation with the Board of Governors in the Medical Council of India (MCI), has decided to reduce the qualifying marks for NEET-PG for 2019-20 by six percentile. Under the revised norm, general category candidates with minimum mark of 44 percentile, persons with disabilities category with minimum of 39 percentile and SC/ST and OBC category candidates with 34 percentile will be eligible for admission to postgraduate medical courses for the academic year 2019-20.

In a statement, the ministry and the MCI said, "All states/UTs were requested to make necessary arrangements for allowing students as per revised qualifying marks in any further rounds of counselling this year".

In early April, the Medical Counselling Committee released the NEET PG/MDS 2019 seat allotment matrix for the second round of counselling at different affiliated institutions all over the country. The seat allotment letter for the first round of NEET PG/MDS counselling was issued on 28 March.

Those who have not been allotted a seat in neither round one nor round two must wait for the next one which will be conducted anytime soon. Students who don’t get their choice even in the third and last mop-up round can attend the counselling sessions for the state quota and may also try to acquire a seat via management quota.

This year, the NEET PG examination took place on January 06, 2019. The national level entrance exam for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses was conducted in the online mode and had 300 multiple choice questions (MCQs) for the candidates. The paper was divided into three parts - Part A, B, and C. Each part contained 50, 100 and 150 questions respectively.

The results for the NEET PG 2019 examination were declared by the National Board of Examination (NBE) on January 31. The NEET PG is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination which is conducted for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma courses.

NEET PG is a mandatory entrance exam even for foreign nationals seeking admission in PG medical courses in India. No other entrance examination, either at state or institution level, is valid for entry to MD/MS/PG Diploma Courses.
