According to reports, The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test will be the only medical entrance exam in the country, and it has been confirmed by the Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal. This means that prestigious medical institutions like JIPMER and AIIMS will not conduct the MBBS Entrance exams separately for admission as NEET will be the single MBBS entrance Exam in the country. Now, admission to 1207 seats in 15 AIIMS and 200 seats in JIPMER will be made on the basis of NEET exam that is going to conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency).
As per the reports, the MHRD was asked specific questions regarding MBBS admissions in the Lok Sabha. The HRD Ministry gave answer for all the questions asked in the house, and according to the Ministry, there will be a single and uniform NEET Exam for admission to MBBS programmes at medical institutes.
From now onwards, NEET will be the single MBBS Entrance exam and separate medical entrances such as AIIMS and JIPMER entrance exams will be discontinued. Students will now have to appear for a single entrance exam for admission to MBBS Colleges. Going by the statistical data, till last year, around 2 lakh candidates and 3 lakh candidates appeared for the JIPMER and AIIMS entrance exams while 14 lakh candidates appeared for the NEET exam. It is obvious that the number of candidates appearing for NEET from now onwards will increase as AIIMS and JIPMER entrances are going to be discontinued.
It is to note that the NEET 2020 Exam is going to be held on May 3, 2020 in offline mode, and the test is going to be conducted by NTA. The NEET 2020 registration will begin from December 2, 2019 and will end on December 31, 2019.
