With scores of agitated students staging protests over the CBSE paper leak scam in April, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has formed an eight-member panel in order to review the Class 10th and Class 12th board examinations process.

The committee, formed to analyse the conduct of CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 examinations, has sought suggestions from some Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to prevent exam paper leaks, which took place in 2018.

At its last meeting in April, the committee decided to approach the IITs, India’s premier engineering schools for technology solutions, sources close to the development told Hindustan Times.

The panel, formed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), has also decided to add some element of surprises every year to the proposed new system.

Besides IITs, CBSE has tapped professionals from the information technology sector to suggest measures.

The decision was taken amidst the growing clamour over the CBSE Class 10 Mathematics and Class 12 Economics papers leak, which invited criticism of the process the CBSE conducted examinations.

A re-test of the Class 12 Economics paper took place on April 25 while the CBSE decided against one for Class 10.

The committee, headed by VS Oberoi, a former secretary of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), comprises seven other members and was formed in April.

They are also discussing ways to make it easier to track the source of paper leaks and fix the same as soon as possible.

"CBSE has also suggested that the system used by it for its online competitive exams could also be adopted as there hasn’t been any instances of paper leak in those," Hindustan Times quoted another person familiar with the development.
