CBSE is going to introduce 3 Skill Courses from the 2020-21 academic session. In order to make the new generation of school students physically fit, innovative and creative in their approach, CBSE is going to introduce three new skill based subjects namely ‘Physical Activity Trainer’, Design-Thinking’ and ‘Artificial Intelligence’ at Class 11 from the academic session 2020-21. Further, the board laid strong emphasis on the importance of Critical Thinking and Problem Solving skills that has become the need of the hour. This is where the Skill Course – ‘Design Thinking’ will play an important role in expanding students’ creative instinct and their thinking capabilities for innovative solutions.
On the other hand, the second Skill Course – ‘Artificial Intelligence’ will help students move hand-in-hand with technology and work better with machines in future. The third Skill Based Course – ‘Physical Activity’ is of utmost importance for students to keep themselves physically and mentally fit in the long run.
According to the official notification, the Skill Course will be offered as an additional 6th subject along-with the other 5 compulsory subjects at Secondary Level. Now, if any student fail in any of the subjects (I.e. Science, Mathematics and Social Science), then it will be replaced by the Skill Subject that is offered as the 6th Subject. Hence, the CBE Class 10 Board Exam Result will be evaluated on the basis of best 5 subjects. Meanwhile, if a student wants to reappear for the failed subject exam, he/she can appear for the compartmental exam.
Further, CBSE has encouraged senior secondary schools to follow the same rule and offer at-least 1 skill based subject out of the 40 other subjects that are offered as elective subjects.
