New Delhi:

Students who are eligible for the UGC and AICTE fellowships and scholarships will now have to declare their Adhaar numbers by June 30 to avail the scholarship and fellowships granted by the University Grants Commission and the All India Council for Technical Education.

In the latest announcement made by the Human Resource Development ministery said that the order covers fellowship schemes implemented by the University Grants Commission and the All India Council for Technical Education.

From now on, all the students seeking scholarships and fellowships from recognised government institutes should possess Aadhaar card number.
Also students who do not have Aadhaar numbers can apply their names in the Unique Identity project and declare their enrolment numbers to their colleges.

This decision was taken to introduce uniformity and transperency within and across the system which will also help in verification and preven duplication of marksheets and certificates.

However the ministery also informs that its not mandatory for students hailing from the states of Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir
