The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta on Sunday successfully conducted the first and second slots of CAT 2018 examinations in two different shifts - from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm respectively. Over 2 lakh candidates have appeared for the prestigious MBA entrance exam conducted by IIM Calcutta for the admission to various IIMs across the country.

CAT 2018 Slot 1 analysis:

As per the expert analysis, the pattern of the CARC section was pretty much similar to that of CAT 2017 examinations, except for minute structural changes. While the Para jumbles were easy and doable, the Quant section had left the candidates dumbfounded. The QA section in CAT 2018 is said to be the most difficult one in the prestigious management exam in the last 10 years. The difficulty in DILR section was almost on the lines of CAT 2015, 2016 and 2017. Talking about the Quantitative Aptitude, Algebra along with geometry overshadowed the other topics in the section. There was a total of 24 TITA questions all over. VARC had 6 TITA questions, while Quant and DILR had 9 each.

CAT 2018 Slot 2 Analysis:

CAT 2018 was a Digital or Computer Based Test (CBT), not an Internet-Based Test (IBT) which means that candidates had no need to take the test on an internet site. The aspirants had to read the questions on a computer console and choose the answer by clicking on the correct option for MCQ type questions. For non-MCQs on the console, candidates were allowed to insert the answer by using the mouse and the onscreen keyboard in the space provided for. Hence, unlike every year candidates had not to read the questions from a Paper booklet and dark the ovals on the answer booklet in CAT exam 2018.

During the CAT 2018 examinations, the students were not allowed to leave the examination hall before 80 minutes, even if they would have attempted all questions before the set time.

Other important information:

There would be no negative marks for a non-MCQ type question. In CAT 2018, each Section was allotted 60 minutes - with the total time for the examination being 180 minutes. The IIM will announce the results for CAT 2018 examination in January 2018. For more updates regarding CAT 2018 students can visit IIM'S official website which is iimcat.ac.in.
