The Punjab Engineering College (PEC) has set a record in domestic recruitment with a placement package of Rs 42 lakh for its students this year. Five students from the computer science and engineering (CSE) branch secured the package from Microsoft India. While it is the highest this year, other companies like Arcesium, Salesforce, Goldman Sachs and the Trident Group have also offered packages between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 36.5 lakh.

In the last three years, the highest package offered to PEC students has grown from Rs 27 lakh in 2016-17 to Rs 34 lakh in 2017-18 and to Rs 42 lakh for the session of 2018-19. This year, a total of 320 students out of the 453 eligible ones have been placed in 180 companies.

Dr Divya Bansal, head of the Career Development and Guidance Centre, PEC, said, “Of the total 492 students, 453 were found eligible for placements with percentile more than 6.0. She said 99 per cent students were either joining top universities or B-schools for pursuing higher studies right after BTech or had taken up jobs in PSUs or had secured better opportunities off campus.” “As many as 35 students have decided to join higher studies and around 45 students are awaiting results from top universities,” as reported by The Tribune.

As per by PEC, about 60 per cent of CSE students have got packages above Rs 10 lakh and over 20 percent of students have got packages of more than Rs 20 lakh. The Mechanical and Production Engineering students have also received a hike in the highest package from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 21 lakh this year. However, Civil Engineering saw a fall this year with the highest offer of Rs 10.81 lakh per annum.

In CSE branch, 12 of the total 18 students have got the highest internship stipend of Rs 31,000 per month and median stipend of Rs 25,000 per month.

In information security, 10 of the total 15 students have got the highest internship stipend of Rs 35,000 per month and median stipends of Rs 32,000 per month.
