Pradhan Mantri Innovative Learning Programme ‘DHRUV’, Reaching the Sky is being launched from Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Headquarters at Bengaluru by Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. The HRD Minister launched the programme in the presence of Dr K Sivan, Chairman ISRO, Rina Ray, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, Wing Commander. Rakesh Sharma, AC (Retired.) – The first Indian to enter the space and Professor K Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India.

It is to note that 60 students (30 from Science and 30 from Performing Arts domains) have been shortlisted for this programme’s first batch. The programme will start with the tour at ISRO followed by stay in Delhi. All shortlisted students will be guided and taught by experts in their respective disciplines. The ‘DHRUV’ programme will conclude on October 23.

The objective of DHRUV would be to allow talented students realise their full potential and contribute to society, said a government press release. The programme aims at identifying and encouraging talented children to enrich their skills and knowledge.

The programme will be called DHRUV (after the Pole Star) and every student, DHRUV TARA. The release quoted Pokhriyal as saying that in the centres of excellence across the country, gifted children would be mentored and nurtured by renowned experts in different areas so that they can reach their full potential.

Many of the selected students are expected to reach the highest levels in their chosen fields and bring laurels to their community, state and nation, he added. (With PTI Inputs)
