This academic session, Era University Lucknow has set up a Department of Happiness. This department is the first of its kind in India.
It is a value-added course in happiness specifically meant for the medical students who work under stressful environment. As the work of medical and paramedical students involve continuous interaction with patients suffering from various illness, the students need a happiness class to keep themselves active and fresh.
Prof Abbas Ali Mahdi, Vice-Chancellor, Era University said that the Department of Happiness is established with the objective to new tools of happiness that can create an ecosystem wherein people can realize their potential and experience inner well-being. This department will also help medical and paramedical students to remain calm and composed despite all the odds.
The Department of Happiness was set up with Meeta Ghosh as the head of the department. The Vice Chancellor also said that the value-added certificate course will be elevated to a full-fledged course that will cover all the aspects. The department was inaugurated on August 16, 2019 by the principal secretary of medical education, Rajneesh Dube. The first class was held on August 19, 2019.
The Vice Chancellor also said that it is important to introduce a course on happiness as it is important for students to take this course seriously for their own well-being.
Prof Meeta Ghosh, Head of Department, Department of Happiness said that the prime objective of the Happiness course is to teach students the importance of positive psychology and enable them to realize their inner potential as successful human beings.
Delhi Government School, Abu Dhabi University and Yale University are among other educational institutions that have setup Department of Happiness.
