It may be due to the rise in unemployment or the craze for government job, an IIT graduate from Bihar has cleared the RRB Group-D exam and has joined Indian Railways in Dhanbad railway division. As of now, he is working as a track maintainer.

Shrawan Kumar, resident of Bihar, who holds his M.Tech and B.Tech degrees from IIT, Mumbai stated that job security was the prime reason for joining Indian Railways. Now, he is posted under Public Works Inspector (PWI), Telo at Chandrapura. His job is primarily to look after track maintenance between Telo and Chandrapura section.

Interestingly, his joining as a trackman has come as a surprise to many senior officials of the Dhanbad Railway Division. The officials are finding it tough to believe that such a highly qualified person has joined as a Group-D professional.

Shrawan joined IIT Bombay in 2010 in combined dual degree course and successfully obtained his degree in 2015. However, ever since he always wanted to work as a government employee. Importantly, he is confident of becoming a government officer in future.
