The main agenda of Indian Government as of now is to focus on the standard and quality of education in the country. India is going through a transitional phase where educational institutes and universities need to lay strong emphasis on the standard of education. The government has already been working towards raising the standard of education. Nevertheless, many more things are still to be done, and universities need to step forward as they need to play the major role. In the meantime, with the popularity of distance learning in India, the responsibility of open universities has increased in contributing more in the field of higher education.
According to recent developments, the Joint Secretary of UGC has asked open universities to work on the standard and quality of education in their universities. As of now, many programs are being run by open universities wherein young learners enrol for the respective courses. Now, if the quality of education is raised in open universities, students will get great deal of benefits and will be interested in pursuing the courses. The Joint Secretary of the University Grants Commission was addressing the gathering of stakeholders and VCs of the open universities when he asked universities to work on the quality of education.
The Joint Secretary also emphasized on the fact that universities should work hard and strive to get accredited from reputed agencies like NAAC. He said that the quality of education should be such that students can proudly say that they passed from the respective Open University. He also said that open universities should plan to get accredited by NAAC so that the enrolment number of students increases.
