Gauhati and Dibrugarh Universities have postponed the semester exams due to the ongoing protest in Assam against the Citizenship Amendment Bill. As the massive protest against the CAB continues, Universities of Assam have decided to postpone the exams for Undergraduate and Postgraduate semester exams. In the meantime, Dibrugarh and Gauhati Universities' exam that were scheduled until December 16, 2019 have been postponed, and the revised university exam dates are yet to be announced by both these universities. According to the Controller of examinations, the universities are yet to announce the revised dates of semester exams.
According to senior officials, the examinations are postponed in Universities of Assam within a short notice due to the widespread and heavy protest in the districts against the Citizenship Amendment Bill. After the bill was approved by the Upper House, Students of Assam have gathered in large numbers to protest against the CAB. Further, several faculty members of Universities of Assam are taking part in the protest as well.
The Indian Army personnel who are deployed in various districts of Assam carried a flag march after the protest against the CAB. According to reports, 5,000 paramilitary personnel are to be airlifted to Northeastern on the orders of Central Government. The deployment of Army Personnel and paramilitary personnel are deployed in several districts of Assam to make sure law and order is maintained.
