In a student-friendly move, the University of Delhi has introduced as many as 30 new courses across various colleges affiliated to the varsity. The new courses are being included at both the undergraduate and the postgraduate levels from the academic year 2019-20. Moreover, 10 new vocational courses will be introduced for students taking admission to part-time certificate courses. The development came following a meeting of Delhi University academic council.
In addition, the council has also given its nod to a proposal asking to increase the number of seats for the existing courses. A total of 282 seats will be increased across colleges from 2019 onwards. While 80 seats were added to the BA programme at Hans Raj College, 25 seats to the B.Com programme and 47 seats to the B.Com (Hons) in Aditi Mahavidyalaya. The remaining 50 seats were given to the Maharishi Valmiki College.

Apart from these, the Council has also decided to add courses including physical education as a discipline course in BA programme at Lakshmi Bai College and Vivekanand College and Computer science as a discipline of BA programme at Lakshmi Bai college from 2019 onwards.
Meanwhile, in view of the implementation of new courses, the Academic Council has written a letter to the University Grants Commission (UGC), Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry, and the vice chancellor of DU, seeking additional funds and 3000 new teachers for the varsity.
